About the WMCA
Historically, the West Midlands was the “workshop of the world”.
Now the challenge is to become the engine of the British economy, driving jobs, prosperity and economic growth. The ambition for the West Midlands is to help rebalance the UK economy, closing the £16bn output gap, and leading the Midlands Engine.
In order to do this the WMCA are working across geographic boundaries and sectors. The Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, together with the Leaders of the seven constituent authorities of the West Midlands believe a Combined Authority – where every council works in equal partnership, alongside our Local Enterprise Partnerships and non-constituent partners, will establish a robust framework that will deliver co-ordinated and collaborative decision-making needed for modern economic governance.
