Thank you for taking the time to find out more about the Director of Housing and Regeneration and the Director of Skills and Productivity posts for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).

I’ve just been appointed as the first permanent Chief Executive of the WMCA and I come in to post mid-September.  I’m looking forward to working with our newly elected Mayor, Andy Street and his team of portfolio holders, to deliver on a carefully crafted strategic economic plan that will deliver better skills, more jobs, additional housing and improved connectivity, as well as reforming our public sector.  We will be working relentlessly to stimulate economic growth and to close the productivity gap and to do that I want the very best people around me.

The great news is that the WMCA has already come a long way in a very short time.  It’s just over a year since the WMCA was officially launched and we have already managed to grasp the nettle when it comes to understanding what works for government, as well as what works for the region’s residents and businesses.

A significant amount of ground work has already been done through the grit and determination of elected members and officers.  They took the very bold step of working together across boundaries; in collaboration rather than competition.  Our challenge will be to continue with those established good principles to bring further investment and pride to the region and position ourselves on a national and international stage.  The prize is worth it.

We are perfectly placed to help shape the government’s embryonic Industrial Strategy and to respond and embrace the opportunities devolution brings to go further and faster in enabling economic growth.   We can change people’s lives for the better if we seize the opportunities that are opening up in front of us.

Remember, the WMCA has already been awarded the biggest devolution deal in the country and, because we are ambitious about the future, discussions are on-going as we look to move even more powers and responsibilities from Westminster directly to the West Midlands.

So because I want to stay ahead of the curve and create a team that really cuts it with government, investors, businesses and a whole range of diverse organisations, I’m looking to appoint top quality people to the posts of Director of Housing and Regeneration and Director of Skills and Productivity.

If you are innovative and inspirational and up for the challenge of a lifetime, then I look forward to seeing your application and hopefully working alongside you to ensure the WMCA stays at the forefront of the devolution story.
